Society of St. Vincent de Paul

Our Mission

We are men and women who strive to grow spiritually by offering person-to-person service to individuals in need. We are part of an international society of friends united by a spirit of poverty, humility, and sharing, which is nourished by prayer and reflection.

Energized by the awareness that service to our brother or sister in need is in fact an encounter with our Lord Jesus Christ, members of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul are keenly aware that poverty, suffering and loneliness are present for millions in our communities. For that reason, we collaborate with all who seek to relieve need and address its causes.

You... A Vincentian?

If you want to join an organization that seeks to:

  • quietly and discreetly aid needy individuals

  • make personal visits to homes of those in need

  • grow spiritually through a gift of self to others

  • help fulfill the two great commandments, love of God and love of neighbor

then the Society of St. Vincent de Paul is where you belong.

Inquire about becoming a member today and remember that "In coming closer to the needy, you are coming closer to God."

Our Lady of Victory Conference

The Conference meets monthly to discuss financial matters, upcoming events, the nature of assistance given in the latest month, and other initiatives.

Working in pairs, Vincentians often visit those who request our assistance in their homes. This Home Visit is the essence of our vocation. By meeting people where they live, we respond to the call of St. Vincent de Paul to “represent the goodness of God in the eyes of the poor.” In return, we strive to see the face of Christ in those we serve.

Members meet on an “as needed” basis to discuss Home Visits and to arrive at the best solutions for those who are in need of assistance. All interactions with clients are strictly confidential.

Assistance is not limited to financial aid. Immediate needs of food, clothing, shelter, and medical care are addressed, as well as the underlying causes of the distress. We frequently work in conjunction with local social service agencies. When appropriate, clients may recieve a voucher to cover clothing or other necessary items in our Thrift Store.

History

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul was founded in Paris, France, in 1833, by Frederic Ozanam and six others to personally provide assistance to the poor and suffering as a lay organization. They chose as their patron the great Apostle of Charity, St. Vincent de Paul.

In America, the first conference of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul was established in St. Louis, Missouri in 1845. Today there are over 4,400 conferences with 97,000 Vincentians in the United States, and over 800,000 Vincentians in 153 countries.

Our Lady of Victory Conference was established in October, 1996. The Society’s Thrift Store opened in April, 1998, and is now at 1300 Benner Pike, Suite B, a location we moved to in late December 2018.
